Final Project: Photo Story

My collection is called "Magic Pie."

The message of my gallery is mostly just that you can ALWAYS have fun, and share a funny story.

I used many photography techniques in my project. I used lots of rule of thirds, some balance, interesting perspectives, color, movement, patterns, and lots of photo manipulation!!! I was really lucky that the day I took these pictures was cloudy, so I did not have to worry about harsh shadows!

Some challenges that I had with my project were finding which rule I could use in each specific shot, what perspective to take each shot from, and in what order to take them. I had to take the end pictures before the middle so that the pie did not drastically change. I also had a little trouble with the editing and manipulations. I had to figure out how to change the color on only one section of my photo, and how to convincingly add things into my photos. I also had challenges getting my brother to do what I wanted him to do. He only did it because he got to eat the pie. :)

"Strolling Along"

I took this picture in my backyard.

This picture has contrasting colors with my brother's clothes and he is standing on a third line. The grass ends on a third line. This picture has patterns with the trees in the background. It also shows the movement of him walking.

In this photo, all I edited was I cropped off some of the edges.

"Finding Pie"

I took this picture in my backyard.

This picture uses color contrasts and patterns in the background. It is almost symmetrical and very balanced.

For this photo, I added the pie, since the pie in the original picture was very over-exposed and not very clear. I then blurred the edges of the plate a little to make it fit into the picture better.

"Looks Delicious"

I took this picture in my backyard.

In this picture, I had the strings of my brother's hoodie hanging down on a third line. I also had good color with the bright red and white. The leaves on the grass create a pattern, and this picture is taken from an interesting perspective.

In this picture, I lightened my brother's face and added color to the pie. I had to select only the pie, then I darkened the brown to make it stand out more.

"Why Not Eat Some?"

I took this picture in my backyard.

Again, this picture has the contrast of the bright red on the green, the bright white that sticks out, and the pattern of the leaves and the grass underneath. I took this picture from an interesting perspective, and it shows movement.

In this picture, I darkened the color of the pie, and I turned the highlight and white point down.

"Yummy"

I took this picture in my backyard.

In this picture, I have LOTS of rule of thirds. The fork is on a third, my brother's face in the left third, his eye is on the top left focal point, and his hand is on the right third line. There is the striking red of my brother's outfit that contrasts with the background. This picture also shows movement.

I cropped this photo.

"Ahhhhh"

I took this picture in my backyard.

This picture has the color of the plate and my brother's clothes just like the other pictures. It also has the pattern of the leaves and grass. This picture has some interesting perspective that was pretty hard to get. To get the picture of my brother looking up at me, I had to stand on a very precarious chair on our raised patio. My brother is on a third line and so is the pie.

In this picture, I did a lot of manipulation. I had to cut my brother out of one picture and add him to another. His feet looked weird so I blurred the edges of his boots which made them look much better. I also darkened the pie to bring out the brown more.

"What Happened?"

I took this picture in my backyard.

The plate, my brother (his name is Avery), and the tree line are on third lines. I have bright red and white colors again. The leaves and the trees make a pattern in the background. The perspective is pretty interesting. I had to get on the ground to get the pie picture and then added my tiny brother standing beside it.

I did basically the exact same thing for this picture as the last one. I darkened the pie to make the color better. I cut my brother out and added him to this picture, and then blurred the edges of his boots to make it look like he is actually standing there.

"Better Eat Some More"

I took this picture in my backyard.

For this picture, Avery's body and arm are on third lines and the pie is on a focal point. The red and white still contrast (I am getting really tired of typing that :) and leaves and grass make a pattern. It also shows movement as he reaches out for the pie.

I cut my brother out of a picture and added him to this one. I darkened him slightly and blurred the edges of his hand a little.

"Hope this Works"

I took this picture in my backyard.

Avery's head and body are on a third line, and the pie in his hand is on a focal point in this picture. The red is a contrast to the background. The trees in the background also give it a pattern.

I only cropped this one to line him up on the third line a little better.

"Here it Goes"

I took this picture in my backyard.

This picture has an interesting perspective. I made Avey sit on his knees so I could get this downward angle since he is still supposed to be tiny. This picture shows movement because he is about to take a bite. The leaves and grass are a pattern and the red contrasts with the background. I also have a shallow depth of field so that the background is blurred and all the focus is on Avery's face.

I cropped this picture a little too.

"Big Again!"

I took this picture in my backyard.

In this picture, I really wanted the focus on Avery, so I put him in the middle of this picture. I have the color contrast and tree, grass, and leaf patterns in this one too. The tree line is on a third and where the leaves stop is basically on a third, though it curves a little at the end.

I added the pie in this picture because the original was over-exposed. Then I cropped it and brightened it a little.

"OH MY GOSH!!!"

I took this picture in my backyard.

This picture is mostly symmetrical and is a good portrait since the shadows are defused. Avery's eyes are on a third line and so is his mouth. His whole head is in the middle third of the picture.  The trees make a pattern and the red contrasts with the background.

I cropped this picture too.

"Destroy the Pie"

I took this picture in my backyard.

Here Avery's legs are on a third line, the higher foot extends on a third line, and the bottom of the plate is on a third line. The leaves and trees make a pattern and the white contrasts with the green of the photo. It also shows the movement of him stomping on the pie.

I darkened the pie in this picture. I turned down the exposure and turned up highlights

"That was Weird"

I took this picture in my backyard.

This picture is fairly balanced. The red stands out, and there is a pattern in the background caused by the trees. The lighting of this picture is good and it is a nice portrait. It has a shallow depth of field so that the background is blurred out. It is also balanced.

"Whatever"

I took this picture in my backyard.

This picture shows the movement of Avery shrugging. His arms extend on a third line. It is very balanced, the red stands out, and the trees make a pattern.
