Final Project: Photo Story

Image
My collection is called "Magic Pie." The message of my gallery is mostly just that you can ALWAYS have fun, and share a funny story.  I used many photography techniques in my project. I used lots of rule of thirds, some balance, interesting perspectives, color, movement, patterns, and lots of photo manipulation!!! I was really lucky that the day I took these pictures was cloudy, so I did not have to worry about harsh shadows! Some challenges that I had with my project were finding which rule I could use in each specific shot, what perspective to take each shot from, and in what order to take them. I had to take the end pictures before the middle so that the pie did not drastically change. I also had a little trouble with the editing and manipulations. I had to figure out how to change the color on only one section of my photo, and how to convincingly add things into my photos. I also had challenges getting my brother to do what I wanted him to do. He only did it because he g...

Make up for Experiments in Lightling Project!

Image
This picture is called "Temperature of a Fall Day." I took this photo in my bedroom! This is my picture to make up my grade for the Experiments in Lighting project. This is an example of good lighting since you can see the light shining off the glass, which makes it stand out better. You can also see the light shining on the colored water inside the thermometer. I have the subject lined up on the left third, and a very shallow depth of field.

Project: Photo Manipulation

Image
Before: After: This is my picture "Suprise Pumpkin." I took it a Jacquemin Farms. This was the picture I took at the beginning of the semester for good color. I made this one more stunning. When I manipulated this photo, I lightened it up a bit to bring out the white more. I also brought out the color a little to make the leaves in the back a little brighter. Then I used a layer mask to make the pumpkin way more orange. Before: After: This is my picture "Temperature of a Fall Day." I took it in my bedroom and the throwing star picture I took in my back yard. This is my "surreal" photo! For this one, I had lots of layers. For each of the bulbs of color, I had to make a separate layer so that I could change the color. Then I had a layer that made the color show through all the glass. I also had the throwing star layer. Lastly, I had to change the saturation of the background to make it black and white! Before: After: This is my picture "Enjoying the W...

Project: Candid Photos

Image
This is my picture "Feed Me." I took this in my bedroom.  The fact that this picture is candid gives it a much more authentic feel because my dog was actually trying to get me to feed him. Since my subject is a dog, this photo would have been really hard to set up. It would have been hard to get him to stay right by the bowl and to look directly into it. I used the rule of thirds since I lined up my dog's head on the intersection of two thirds and his body is centered around a third line. This is my picture, "Which Card to Play?" I took this in my Family Room. This picture is better because it is candid. If it had been set up, I probably would have chosen a less distracting background. Having this background makes it feel much more like he is just playing cards without the set up feel. I used the rule of thirds for this picture too. My brother is on a third. Also, the color contrasts since the background has a lot of browns and greens and my brother is wearing b...

Project: Still Life and Movement + Some Lighting

This is my picture "Horn of Plenty." I took this in my dining room. This is my still life picture. I set it up so that the tablecloth was held up behind the subject. I had a light shining on it from the right, a window and a reflector on the left. This made the lighting turn out very even. My colors are all pretty close together on the color wheel. On the left, I have the top of the corn placed on the third line, and most of the pumpkins are placed around the bottom third line. This is my picture "Polar Bear Play!"...

Project: Portraits and Landscapes

Image
This is my picture "Enjoying the Woods." I took this picture at my grandparent's house. This portrait picture shows good lighting since there is a little shadow, but it is soft and not distracting. This picture also has framing, since the tree frames the subject on one side of the photo. The background is not distracting. The colors are all relatively similar, but the jacket that the subject is wearing is gray and black, which helps it stand out from the browns and greens of the background! This is my picture "Fall Day." I took this picture at my grandparent's house. This landscape picture has a lot of depth. The path heading into the distance helps you to see the depth. The main subject of this photo is the light pole, which is placed on the third. The path also acts as a leading line, that leads to the light pole. The trees in the background act as a pattern too! This is my picture "Woods in the Fall." I took this picture at my grandparent's ...

Project: Experiments in Lighting

Image
This is my picture "Bleached Pumpkin." I took this picture in my house. This is my bad lighting picture. It has very uneven lighting, and you can clearly see where my light is positioned by the reflection on the pumpkin. The way I have the light shining off the pumpkin takes away a lot of its texture too. This picture also has a pretty distracting background. This is my picture "October!!!" I took this picture in my fount yard. This is an example of good lighting since the lighting is very even. I took this picture outside on a cloudy day. The lighting really helps to define the shape and texture of the pumpkin. I also have the pumpkin lined up on a third line. These are my three pictures taken at different times of day: 9:45 AM 11:25 AM 6:30 PM These are my "Halloween Flowers" pictures. I took them in my front yard. I think the lighting is the best in the middle picture.  It was cloudy all weekend, so they are not as bright as they could have been. The ...
